I get asked this question a lot — should I use survey sites or GPT sites? Which one pays more? After 14 years of using both I finally have a clear answer. Here is my honest comparison.

What Is the Difference?

Survey sites pay you specifically for completing surveys — sharing your opinions on products, brands, and topics. That is all they do.

GPT stands for Get Paid To. GPT sites pay you for surveys AND many other activities — watching videos, playing games, shopping online, trying new apps, and searching the web. They are essentially survey sites with extra earning methods built in.

Which Pays More Per Hour?

This is where it gets interesting. In my personal experience:

  • Pure survey sites like Survey Junkie pay about $3-$8 per hour on average
  • GPT sites like Freecash pay about $3-$6 per hour from surveys alone
  • Prolific (a hybrid research platform) pays $8-$15 per hour — the highest of any platform

On a pure per-survey basis dedicated survey sites are slightly better. But GPT sites win overall because you can keep earning even when surveys are not available.

Monthly earnings tell a different story:

  • Higher monthly total — more ways to earn means more money overall
  • Great for beginners — easier to get started and see results quickly

GPT Sites — Cons

  • More distracting — tempting to spend time on low paying activities

My Personal Strategy

After 14 years I use both — and I think that is the right answer for most people.

Here is my daily routine:

  • Morning — check Prolific first for high paying research studies
  • Throughout the day — Freecash for quick surveys and game offers

  • Evening — Survey Junkie for any surveys that dropped during the day

This combination consistently earns me $100-$200 per month spending about 20-30 minutes actively per day. The key is not choosing one or the other — it is using the best of both worlds together.

My Verdict — Which Should You Use?
